NOW Art and Los Angeles Recreation and Parks collaborated to commission ‘Liquid Shard,’ a groundbreaking public art installation by local artist Patrick Shearn. Notably, the project served as an educational tool for architecture students on work-study at his fabrication company, Poetic Kinetics Studio. Carmen Zella of NOW Art curated the work, previously showcasing a smaller version in a group exhibition of public artworks outside The LA Art Show at the Los Angeles Convention Center. The final version of ‘Liquid Shard’ captivated Angelenos when it unexpectedly adorned Downtown Los Angeles for a mesmerizing two-week period in the summer of 2016. The installation, marked by its astonishment-inducing display, has since become an iconic public artwork, standing out as the most popular and well-known commission from LA Rec and Parks. Its global recognition has reached millions of viewers, propelling Shearn to receive numerous commissions worldwide and significantly influencing his career trajectory from installations at festivals and the focus of his fabrication company.
