CONVERGE
An immersive light installation exploring light as a sculptural medium through reflection, water, and movement — responding to the natural rhythms of Venice Beach.
LUMINEX Presents explores the profound and mysterious relationship between the ocean and the universe — two seemingly infinite realms that shape human existence while remaining largely unknown to us.
Connected through forces both visible and unseen — from the moon's gravitational pull on the tides to the rhythms that govern bodies, ecosystems, and celestial systems — the ocean and cosmos become mirrors of one another.

Experience a panel discussion moderated by Earth Calling, art installations, performance and a Skylights drone exhibition.

An illuminated local bike parade opens the evening.

A Los Angeles-based violist whose diverse career spans orchestral and chamber music, film scores, and performances with artists including Bad Bunny, Rosalía, and Björk.

A conversation exploring our profound and mysterious relationship between the ocean and the universe.

An interactive audiovisual performance transforming audience-generated light into evolving digital and sonic landscapes — audience phone flashlights become creative inputs, responding to live electric harp.

Immersive video projections that bring moving images into dialogue with physical space, the body, and live performance — exploring scale, dimensionality, and the interplay between tangible and illusionistic worlds.

Chthonic Light is a meditation on the cycle of death and rebirth. Its title comes from “chthonic,” the fertile underworld where decaying matter becomes a tonic for new life. In this work, Gaussian splatting captures of living plants emerge from volumetric nebulas, then dissolve into constellations of subatomic particles. Drawing on quantum mechanics and zero-point field fluctuations, the restless quantum energy that persists even below absolute zero temperatures, the piece imagines life as a continuous exchange between matter and light, entropy and renewal. Like the moon pulling on the tides, unseen forces bind the botanical to the celestial. It visually sets blooming flowers against cosmic nebulas and invites viewers to contemplate how these macro and micro scales intertwine.
Code-born blossoms rise from prismatic spheres like bubbles surfacing from deep water or planets forming in the dark. Effervesense turns 3D-scanned orchids and CLIP-guided Gaussian splats into spectral flowers, phantom blooms suspended between the digital and the natural. Each sphere holds synthesized memories of nature, refracting botanical data into light. The work, made in collaboration with AIDA, explores the boundary between authentic and artificial experience, and asks what it means to encounter nature through a machine’s imagination.
Eli Joteva is a Bulgarian-American artist, researcher, and educator. With a practice rooted in photography and digital media, her work traces the translations between material and virtual planes in an effort to re-imagine the experiences of both human and other-than-human bodies. Influenced by research in quantum mechanics, neurophysics, and machine vision, she collaborates with scientists and uses alternative imaging tools like MRI, EEG, and data-driven simulations to produce image series, immersive installations, and augmented reality projects. Joteva’s work has been exhibited internationally across Europe, the US, Asia, the Middle East, and Australia and she served as a Visualization Research Artist at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications. Currently she teaches at CalArts, Laguna College of Art & Design, UCI and Pepperdine University and directs Joteva Studio in Los Angeles.

Informed by the study of bioacoustics, Ian Wellman uses field sound and tape-loop compositions to create introspective narratives that emphasize the vibrational overlaps between natural and built environments.

A percussionist and multi-instrumentalist from East Los Angeles who has performed across 28 countries, drawing on Indian percussion, Indigenous and folkloric music of Mexico, jazz and experimental music.

LUMINEX has evolved into a cultural platform that fosters collaboration and expression at the intersection of Art + Technology + Nature, through creative experiences that will happen year round throughout Los Angeles County.
Our growing network brings together artists, technologists, environmentalists, producers, arts organizations, and civic leaders to create large-scale installations, exhibitions, and conversations about our culture and collective future.
In partnership with Earth Calling, NXT Art Foundation is ensuring that nature remains central to every program — while activating underused spaces, expanding access to the arts, and showcasing world-class creative talent reflective of Los Angeles County.
The LUMINEX Biennial will continue to flourish in DTLA, complemented by installations, panel discussions, special exhibitions, and member experiences throughout the year.

We partnered with Beacon Economics to deliver a comprehensive economic and fiscal impact report analyzing “LUMINEX 2.0.” Utilizing metrics from its second iteration, the research establishes a data-driven baseline for the financial and community value generated by single-night, large-scale public art events.
The joint study underscores how intentional public art interventions serve as economic catalysts, bringing critical foot traffic and consumer spending to urban commercial zones in need of revitalization.
